Physician - scientists at the Center for Reproductive Medicine & Infertility (CRMI) at New York Weill Cornell Medical Center, in a recent article (April 29, 2003) provided a summary of the current research that supports acupuncture,s benefits for fertility treatment. The lead review article reports the acupuncture treatment has the following potential fertility boosting benefits: * Increased blood flow to the
uterus and therefore uterine wall thickness, an important marker
for fertility. "Acupuncture, which is non toxic and relatively affordable, holds much promise as a complementary or alternative fertility treatment", said Dr. Raymond Chang of New York Weill Cornell Medical Center, and co-author of the article. In an article publicized by W. Paulus titled "Influence of Acupuncture on the Pregnancy Rate in Patients Who Undergo Assisted Reproduction Therapy", appearing in the April 2002 issue of Fertility and Sterility, researchers announced that they had increased the success rate by nearly 50% in women undergoing in vitro fertilization with the addition of acupuncture. Traditional Chinese Medicine first recorded documentation of the treatment of infertility dating back to 11AD. Acupuncture is only one part of the program that includes: diet, exercises, herbal remedies and creative visualization to achieve the goal of pregnancy. Each couple must make their own decision as to the path they take in fertility enhancement; - whether it be acupuncture alone or combined with Western Medicine techniques. The potential to achieve the goal of pregnancy is enhanced. END
